The port of Badalona has traditionally been the city's greatest aspiration. It is now a reality after the completion of work on the first stage, and will act as a powerful motor for the economy of the city by generating new jobs and auxiliary activities and by promoting tourism, leisure and business, which are all highly sensitive to the offer of outstanding facilities. The port will also offer a magnificent pedestrian area that will connect to the whole city and help to fulfil another old aspiration: the culmination of the promenade linking the coastal municipalities of the metropolis of Barcelona.

The first stage of construction of the Port, which is now very advanced, goes from the railway line to the sea and occupies 110,000 m2. The marina has moorings for 617 boats, some for sale and some for rent. The central dock will house the harbour authorities building, restaurant buildings and 134 parking places. The eastern dock will house a nine-storey hotel on the seafront, a shopping area and a large public square.

The fishing harbour will have 83 moorings, a fish market and complementary services. The almost 7000 m2 of fishing docks will also house the fishermen's association, cold stores, an ice factory and a sailing school. There will also be an area for maintenance of fishing nets and a dry dock with 330 places for small motor boats and workshops.

The second stage corresponds to the work to be done from the railway line to the Olympic Pavilion, which is expected to be carried out in 2009. The whole scheme includes a total remodelling of the zone, including the creation of a 300-metre-long canal with 178 moorings for nautical use as the continuation of the port, 17 blocks of houses, a new road junction and an avenue from the Pavilion to the future European Basketball City. This second stage also includes the construction of the hotel and the shopping centre.

The estimated cost is 103 million euros, and 3000 new jobs will be created in association with the port and the new residential buildings on the sea front.

The port is managed by Marina Badalona SA, a public company owned half by the City Council of Badalona and half by the County Council of the Barcelonès.

As for the sea promenade, some actions are being taken to consolidate this space as a leisure promenade connecting all Badalona coast from Sant Adrià to Montgat cities. Nowadays it is pending the 3 km section from Mar Street to Sant Adrià. This promenade will extend to Sant Adrià across the new bridges over Besos river. This project also includes the Campsa bridge which will extend the promenade to the sea. The budget prevision is 23.500.000 € financed, in principle, by the Environmental Ministry. Project includes a bike lane and, in the future, a tramway lane coming from Barcelona.
