Line
9 of the metro.
Line 9 will be the longest underground railway
line in Europe—almost 43 kilometres long, with 46 stations
and 90 million passengers per year. It is the most important construction
project of the Generalitat of Catalonia, with a cost of €3,160
million.
This line will be an essential factor in the development of the
cities of Badalona and Santa Coloma de Gramenet in the sub-county of
the Barcelonès Nord, and will meet the public transport needs
of areas with a high population density and insufficient services, such
as some neighbourhoods of these cities which have until now had a poor
public transport connectivity with Barcelona. The Barcelonès
Nord section of Line 9 is expected to come into operation in 2008, though
the whole line will not be operative until 2012.

Line 9 will link the cities of Badalona
and Santa Coloma de Gramenet to the Logistic
Activities Zone (ZAL) of the Port of Barcelona, the Free Zone,
Fira de Barcelona (the trade fair) and El Prat
Airport, with links to the Metro, FGC (the Catalan railways),
RENFE (the Spanish national railways) and the TGV (high-speed train).
